People with Too Much Time on Their Hands: Crop Circles

Crop circles are defined as patterns created by the flattening of various crops. Since around 1990, the "circles" have evolved into complex geometric patterns but the term "crop circle" still remains. These circles have supposedly been in existence since the 17th century -- a devil was depicted in a pamphlet mowing circles into the crops. Crop circles have popped up between then and now with an increasing popularity in the 70's and 80's in England.

The origins of the circles have been disputed by many. The explanations have ranged from geological anomalies to man-made hoaxes or even UFOs. In my opinion, the circles are almost always created by people with too much time on their hands. People will do the oddest things when they are bored or in need of attention or popularity. Everyone is looking for their "15 minutes of fame". Crop circles are definitely one of the odder pursuits of those who have an overabundance of time.

There have been over 12,000 documented circles world wide. They are increasingly becoming an art form all of their own. There are even companies such as circlemakers.org who will make advertisements in fields for products such as Red Bull, Mitsubishi, Discover Channel and NBC. Some of the circles have been shown to have been made with little more than rope and two by fours to stomp down the crops into amazingly complex patterns. Elements of three-dimensionality are becoming increasingly frequent and have culminated in speculator images of cube-shaped structures.

Take a look at these images below and try to imagine how much time they would have taken to create. What I wouldn't do for that much extra time in a day! Or, on the other hand, look at the pictures through the eyes of a believer -- if people didn't create these than what did?

This intricate crop circle composes of circles and triangles was spotted August 5, 2007 on Sugar Hill in Upper Upham, Wilshire in the UK. The symmetry of the design appears to be absolutely perfect and there are no signs of human interaction with the design from the air, at least. This is one of the most baffling things about crop circles. Makers will go to extreme lengths to cover their tracks which leads believers to believe even more.

This amazing three dimensional crop "circle" measured approximately 350 feet. It was found near the village of Ashbury in Oxfordshire in July of 2006. This crop circle is a stellar example of how crop circles are now more than just circles. The three dimensional nature of this formation is incredible and an art form all of it's own.

This crop circle was found in Savernake Forrest in Wiltshire in June of 2006. The wheat crop shows stunning symmetry and three dimensional attributes with two of the circles appearing to be cones more than flat circles at all. The complexity of some of these designs is absolutely stunning!

This crop circle is 150 feet wide and was found in June 2008 near Barbury Castle above the village of Wrought in Wiltshire. The design is said to represent the first 10 digits of 10 (ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter). The tenth digit is said to have even been correctly rounded up. The dot near the center is the decimal point while the ten angular segments with the radial jumps are the indicator of each sequence. I wonder how this would have been completed in the dead of night with boards and ropes? Be interesting to see that's for sure! These people with too much time on their hands like to interweave ideas of mathematics and planetary alignments to make their hoaxes appear more mysterious.

This is a view of a pentagram crop circle in Fosston. The pentagram has longed been linked to the occult and devil worshiping. In this circle, the paths to and from the design can be clearly seen, even from the air.

This photo is an aerial view of a crop circle in South Korea. This one contains many circles of various sizes over top of each other. Their meaning, if there is one, is unapparent and elusive. You'd think if the aliens really wanted to send us a sign, it would be readable!

This crop circle was discovered in Smithfield, Utah in July of 1997. It resembles a petroglyph of some sort more than it resembles the "usual" crop circle design.

This huge crop circle is reminiscent of the base of a tornado shape with various sizes of circles spinning out in three directions. Perhaps it's a giant, alien pinwheel of sorts.

This elongated view of a crop circle in the United States also seems to have some sort of "secret" meaning. It is more than just various circles, one after another. Some of them seem to have key shapes protruding from them. Perhaps one day we'll find the "key" to these mysteries -- even if it is just a bunch of guys drinking beer with too much time on their hands!

This compelling crop circle resembles an eye ball, always open, always watching. The weaved portion surrounding the pupil of the eye look like eye lids and eye lashes. A little bit creepy, for sure.

This crop circle is an elaboration on the basic pentagram shape with moon shapes protruding from each point of the star. Very reminiscent of early pagan symbols.

The squiggly lines of this crop circle look like ribbons undulating from the interior circle. This one is also reminiscent of an alien pinwheel which is huge and covers a wide area of the crop.

In the end, beauty is in the eye of beholder. While I may think these shapes are awesome, fascinating and downright pretty, some farmers are probably getting pretty annoyed at the continual destruction of their crops. These incredible works of art can be very damaging to farmer's crops, regardless of how they are made. Although when one field was damaged with a crop circle in 1996 near Stongehenge, the farmer set up a booth to collect a fee to see his "circle". He collected£30,00 in four weeks while the value of the crop if it had been harvested would have been approximately £150. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

#10 Lemp Mansion

Located in St. Louis, Missouri, the Lemp mansion comes in at number ten at being one of the scariest haunted house in America. The mansion was created by Jon Adam Lemp who arrived in St. Louis from Eschwege, Germany in 1838. He first was a grocer who later found the importance of brewing lager, so in 1840 he abandoned the grocery business and built a brewery. With his fortune from the brewery he created the thirty-three room Victorian mansion. At the time of prohibition, four of the Lemp family members committed suicide as their business became bankrupt and the house went into disrepair. While the mansion was being restored, the workers reported a feeling of being watched, tools disappearing and strange sounds which caused many workers to quit. When the Lemp Mansion was being used as a restaurant, the employees reported seeing glasses float off the bar, sounds with no explanation, the piano playing by itself, and apparitions appearing and disappearing at will. There have been sightings of the "Lavender Lady," who is the divorced wife of William Lemp Jr. She gets the name "Lavender Lady" because of her lavender colored dress she is often seen wearing. There is also a secret door in the basement that leads to caves along the Mississippi River. The caves were used for smuggling slaves and also during the prohibition.

#9 Hull House

Hull House is located in Chicago, Illinois. Hull house was constructed in one of the most fashionable sections of the city by Charles J. Hull in 1856. In the 1880's this house was soon surrounded by factories and tenement houses after the Chicago Fire of 1871. At first, there were some sighting of apparitions and hearing footsteps, but Hull house received its greatest notoriety with being the refuge of the Chicago "devil baby." This child was born to a devout catholic woman and atheist husband and was said to have pointed ears, horns, scale-covered skin and a tail.

It was said that when the child was taken to be baptized, that during the ceremony the baby escaped from the priest and began dancing and laughing. Not knowing what to do about the child, Jane Addams kept it locked in the attic where it later died. People claim that on certain nights, the devil baby can be seen looking through the window of the attic.

#8 Franklin Castle

Frankin Castle is Cleveland, Ohio's most haunted house. It is said that Hannes Tiedemann, who was overbearing and dominating, murdered his daughter and a servant. He was never accused of these murders. The accounts of the child's murder vary. Some say his 15 year old daughter who allegedly died of diabetes was found hanging in the rafters. Other stories say it was his 13 year old niece for being promiscuous or insane. Still yet, others say it's his daughter Karen. There are also various versions of the murdered servant girl. Some say that she was hacked to death with an axe in a front window on her wedding day because of Tiedemann's jealousness of her. It's said that the neighbors heard each whack of the axe from the outside. Others say that she was strangled by Hannes in her bed due to her being engaged to another man. Finally, some say she was shot to death by Hannes. When people visit this castle, they say you can still hear choking sounds in the room where she was killed. Rumor has it that he also killed his wife with poison. When people visit this castle, they witness a woman in black in an upstairs room, lights turn on and off, chandeliers spin, doors open and close, mirrors fog, doorbells ring, mysterious sounds come from the walls - from muttering voices to babies crying. Some visitors reported feeling possessed or overtaken. There are cold spots and rooms that turn icy spontaneously...

#7 Congelier House

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is the home Congelier house. This story begins in the winter 1871. Lyda discovered her husband Charles, having an affair with the maid Essie. It's said that Lyda was so enraged that she fatally stabbed Charles and chopped of Essie's head. This house remained vacant for numerous years and when people did move in, they didn't stay long due to the screaming of a woman. In 1900, Dr. Adolph C. Brunrichter bought the home. One night the neighbors heard screams and they ran outside and saw a red flash shooting through the house. The ground trembled, sidewalks cracked and every window in the home shattered. When officials investigated, they found a decomposed female body and five headless young women in graves located in the basement. He experimented with severed heads and kept them alive for short periods of time after decapitation.

#6 The White House

In Washington D.C. at the White House, several former presidents occasionally decide to make their presence known. Some stories or haunting of the White House include Abigail Adams doing her laundry in the East Room and Dolly Madison overlooking the Rose Garden. Mrs. Wilson wanted to dig up the rose garden Dolly Madison appeared and told them not to disturb her garden. Also a British soldier died on the grounds during the war of 1812. He is seen walking the grounds with a torch in his hand. President Harrison's ghost is often heard rummaging around in the attic. Andrew Jackson is thought to haunt his white house bedroom. Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln held real séances in the White House to recall the spirit of their dead son Willie. The most frequently sighted presidential ghost has been Abraham Lincoln. Eleanor Roosevelt felt him watching her as she worked in the Lincoln bedroom. A clerk claimed to have actually seen his ghost sit on a bed pulling off his boots. When Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands spent a night in the White House, she was awoken one night from a knock on her bedroom door. When she answered it, she was confronted with the ghost of Abe Lincoln staring at her from the hallway. Calvin Coolidge's wife seen on several occasions the ghost of Lincoln stand with his hands clasped behind his back, at a window in the oval office staring out towards the bloody battlefields.

#5 The Stranahan House

The Stranahan House was built in 1906 in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Legend tells that Stranahan died on June 23, 1929 when he committed suicide after sinking into financial ruin in 1927. He lost most of his wealth and holdings in the aftermath of a hurricane and then being a victim of the great depression. He lost his battle with depression, and was troubled with the thought of letting those around him down when they entrusted his financial management with their lifesavings. He has attached a large iron hate to his ankle and threw himself into the river. He returned back to his home as a ghost from the watery depths that claimed him. In years to come after Stranahan, there were six other people who have died in the house and they all make their appearance.

#4 Winchester House

There have been a number of strange events reported at the Winchester House in San Jose, California. It all started in 1884 when a wealthy widow named Sarah L. Winchester began a construction project of such magnitude that it was to occupy the carpenters and craftsmen lives until her death 38 years later. This mansion is filled with many unexplained oddities that it is often referred to as the Winchester Mystery House. This house has 160 rooms, modern heating, sewer system, gas lights, 3 working elevators, and 47 fireplaces. There are windows built into the floor, staircases that lead to nowhere, a chimney that raises 4 floors, doors that open to blank walls. It's said that Sarah along with other tormented spirits still wonder the great maze of rooms.

#3 The Whaley House

The Whaley House is located in San Diego California. It was built in 1857 by Thomas Whaley on land that was once a cemetery. Because of that, the house has since been the locus of dozens of ghost sightings. Some ghostly encounters include a spirit of a young girl who accidently was hung on the property. The ghost of Jim Robinson who was clubbed to death can be heard on the stairway where he died. The red-haired daughter of Whaley sometimes appears in a very realistic form, that she is sometimes mistaken for a live child.

#2 LaLaurie House

This famous private residence in old New Orleans got its title the haunted house from tales that were told about tortured slave spirits clank their chains during the midnight hours in remembrance of awful punishment they face by their mistress. There are even reports of the ghost of the Madame being seen there. Ghosts are often seen running and slamming doors and shouts are heard repeatedly. Furniture moves around by itself, people often feel the touch of unseen hands, and people even see ghosts peering from the upper windows.

#1 Myrtles Plantation

The Myrtles Plantation is the number one haunted house in the United States. It is located in West Feliciana Parish Louisiana. It's said that the actual haunting take place at 3am. "At that exact hour each dark night, Chloe's restless ghost roams the great dark haunted plantation. Chloe is a slave mistress who was kept by judge Woodruff. When he grew tired of her, she started to eavesdrop on him to learn of her fate. When he caught her at this, he cut off her left ear. She wanted to regain affection of him and the family so she boiled poisonous oleander leaves and baked them into a cake. She thought this would just make the children sick and she would get to attend to them. But as it turns out, she used too much and his wife and two children died that night from the poisoning. When the other slaves learned of this, they hung her from a tree then threw her in the Mississippi River. Chloe and the children can be seen and heard to this day in the plantation.

Ghost Bombers

The Pennines are known as the backbone of England and probably have more unusual phenomena occurring here than at any other location in this country. The Derwent dam complex was constructed between 1901-16 and Ladybower dam was added in the 1930s, this dam was made famous by 617 squadron during the second world war when Wing Commander Guy Gibson and the rest of his squadron trained for dropping a bouncing bomb on Germanys Mohne and Eder dams in 1943. There have been many sightings over the last 20 years of a Lancaster bomber seen skimming across the top of the waters of Ladybower resevoir, on a night in October 1982 a couple, Mr and Mrs Shaw were returning along the main road from Glossop which runs past Ladybower resevoir, when Mr Shaw caught sight of an object on his right moving above the waters of the resevoir, as it approached him there was a break in the clouds and the moonlight revealed a Lancaster bomber, it continued flying for another two hundred yards before it disappeared before their eyes.

Ladybower resevoir where a phantom lancaster bomber still flies. Photo by Gary Tacagni.

Vic Hallam who runs a small museum dedicated to the dambusters squadron and which is housed in one of the towers of the Derwent dam relates the following tale, a couple were in the lay by overlooking the Ladybower resevoir having a cup of tea one sunny afternoon when they saw out of their window a large Lancaster bomber fly past with its propellors turning but with no sound coming from the aircraft, they watched as it disappeared into the trees with no sound and no evidence of a crash. Although there has been no reported crashes of bombers into the dam in the past, the nearest reported case of a Lancaster crashing was on the hill known as Bleaklow west of the valley in which all six of the Canadian crew were killed on the 18th of May 1945.

There have been other reports of a silent aircraft which has been identified as a Douglas C-47 Dakota flying so low that the witnesses have been forced to duck, and even though emergency services have been called out no wreckage has ever been discovered.

There has been a report by a person walking past Derwent resevoir which is located above Ladybower early one morning of a second world war pilot dressed in a sheepskin flying jacket seen emerging out of the misty waters. The first thing the walker saw was a light beneath the waters, as the pilot emerged out of the water the source of the light became evident, the pilots jacket was on fire! He walked out of the waters of the dam and headed into nearby Hollingsend wood according to the walker.

Another view of the Derwent, does a phantom airman emerge out of its waters on fire? Photo by Gary Tacagni.

The emergency services receive at least a couple of reports every year from members of the public reporting a plane that has crashed, an example happened on the 24th of March 1997 when the police in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire received a number of 999 calls reporting a plane that had crashed north of Howden resevoir, a police constable, two gamekeepers and several farmers were amongst the witnesses of the crash and also the huge explosion that accompanied it which seemed to come from the moors near Strines forest. A full mountain rescue team as well as 100 volunteers, a helicopter and tracker dogs were used to search more than 40 square miles of moorland, after 15 hours of searching and no wreckage found the search was called off.

A distant view of Bleaklow which has claimed many aircraft, among them being a U.S. airforce B29 Superfortress, all thirteen crew including Captain Langdon Tanner died, a large amount of debri from the crash still remains and sightings of the ghosts of the aircrew still occur to this day.

It has been speculated that ghostly images of the past sometimes replay themselves when the right conditions are present and perhaps a witness who posseses the right sensitivity to receive the information is in the right place at the right time. Many witnesses also claim to hear a buzzing noise when a paranormal event takes place in the Pennines rather like the noise you experience when standing next to high tension power lines, is this evidence of a very powerful electromagnetic field? In laboratory experiments it has been found that electromagentic fields can generate altered states in the human brain, is it possible that the rocks which can be under tremendous strain in the Pennines are generating these fields and are responsible for the phenomena that is being reported?

Psychic Pets

Science has only started to investigate the psychic abilities of animals, but many pet owners already know about the special psychic communication they have with their special animal friends. Pet animals have been known to travel hundreds, in some instances, thousands of miles to reunite with their human owners, with only their psychic honing instincts guiding them. One such example is the amazing account of an Irish terrier named Prince, who traveled more than 250 miles from Britain to find his master in the front line trenches of Armentieres , France during World War I. Another well-known instance is “The Incredible Journey” by Sheila Burnford, a book based on a true account of pet dogs and a cat being separated from their human family, an amazing real-life event which was later turned into a much beloved Disney movie. These pets traveled several thousand miles, one of them dying, with the remainder finally being united with their human family who had moved across to the other side of the continent.

Rupert Sheldrake's Research

Dr. Rupert Sheldrake is one of the scientific pioneers in the research of human-animal communication. A biochemist, his parapsychological work exploring plant and animal behavior is still controversial as well as amazing. Sheldrake explained some of his experiments and the amazing results he achieved during several Coast to Coast interviews. One particularly well-known project he worked on is examining the psychic link between pet animals and their owners, especially when the pets were waiting for their owners to come home from work. In 1994 he released “Seven Experiments That Could Change the World”, one of the subjects being: “Dogs That Know When Their Owners are Coming Home”. His work was also the main topic of the 2008 Toward a Science of Consciousness, where he explored in detail telepathy between humans and animals.

In addition, from his work with plant life and young chicks, Sheldrake developed a theory called “Morphic Resonance” which maintains that living organisms develop under the influence of other like creatures, and that all sentient life has morphic memory, which while stored in the genes are not exclusive to this physiology. His work: “A New Science of Life: The Hypothesis of Morphic Resonance” is a landmark work in the field.

The Elberfeld Horses

The amazing feats of The Elberfeld Horses remain the original classic in the field of animal psychic research. In nineteenth century Germany , a peculiar man named Wilhelm Von Osten would engage anyone he met for the purposes of convincing them about the superior intelligence of animals, particularly horses. Von Osten maintained that horses are able to reach a human level of intelligence if correctly taught. With a meager inheritance, he then devoted considerable time to this experiment. He had his first success with a young Russian stallion named Hans, whom he soon nicked “Clever Hans” or “Kluge Hans”. Within months, Hans knew how to distinguish between various objects and identify them with his hooves. He also taught Hans how to count, and within time, taught Hans how to do not only math, but basic algebra. Word was getting out about this equine phenomenon, as the University of Geneva sent Professor E. Clarapede to investigate. The professor was astonished beyond words at what he saw, but managed to send a report back to the university.

“Hans is capable of more than just calculating
sums; he knows how to read…He also possesses
an uncanny memory. He managed to accomplish
all the tasks presented to him that a bright 14 year
old schoolboy could perform….”

In addition, Clarapede presented Hans with both spoken and written cube root problems. To the astonishment of everyone present, Clever Hans stamped out the right answers. Hans behaved in the manner of human savants who could perform astounding feats of mathematical skills. He also noted that Hans could come up with the right answers if he moved quickly. If he hesitated, many times he was wrong. The professor deduced that Hans, like the human savants, had to solve problems faster and more intuitively so as not to become confused. In 1904, more scientists were sent out to study Hans, and were astonished as well. But in 1912, a well-known skeptic tried his best to denounce Hans. He wasn't successful.

Hans Teaches Other Horses

What is truly one of the most significant examples of animals teaching other animals, occurred after Von Osten died. A wealthy industrialist inherited Hans, one Herr Kraal. What happened next is truly uncanny beyond words. Hans began teaching Krall's other horses, Arabian stallions Zarif and Muhammed. Within days, they began demonstrating the same aptitude as Hans. Researcher Maurice Maeterlkinck went sent out to investigate the situation, his report stymied scientists even more.

“Herr Krall loves his students…he adores them.
And it is precisely this atmosphere of unconditional
Love and affection that has worked so well. No longer
Do you see those abrupt movements of frenzied panic
On the part of the horse…Krall talks to them long and
Tenderly, like the way a good father speaks to his children…”
Within several months, Muhammad has distinguished

between units, tens, and hundreds. Half a month later he was performing multiplication tables! Maeterlinck reported that after four months training, Muhammad could actually deduce square and cube roots. Several months after that he learned how to spell and even read through a cleverly designed alphabet Krall arranged to make it easier for the horse to use its hooves for expression. After six months, the Elberfeld horses started drawing the admiration of thousands of people across Europe . The horses would even tap out answers to questions they were asked by people who came to see them. When the learned mathematicians from the great European universities came by to interrogate them, they left in shocked wonder. No longer could the suggestion of being “clued” by visual signs from the master be used. Sometimes Krall would even move out of sight of the horses, but the results were always the same. There were even instances of Krall not even being in the yard, and the equine pupils would continue their intelligent behavior.

One day in the summer of 1913, Professor Clarapede saw that Zarif turned away from him and would not speak with his hooves any longer. “Why?” Clarapede asked.

“Tired,” stamped Zarif in reply, “Pain in leg.” In another instance Professors Gehrke and Schoeller asked Muhammed why he didn't respond to them using vocalized speech. Amazingly, Muhammed tried to sound a reply but couldn't form the syllables; all that came out of his mouth were sad guttural noises. Then he stamped out the reason: “I have not good voice.” In 1912, Krall published a book about his work. The skeptics were beside themselves because it had been proven that the horses didn't need the presence of any one particular person in order to perform the mathematical problems, or to even answer questions and give answers. However, an interesting note to point out here is that if the horses didn't like a particular human, they refused to answer him and became aloof. Sometimes, the horses actually expressed to Krall that they disliked some of the people who came by. Then a blind horse named Berto was brought into the family. Within months, Berto was performing like the other horses.

Lady Wonder

The next important development in investigating the psychic ability of animals occurred in the mid 1950s with Lady Wonder. Late paranormal researcher Frank Edwards (known for his “Strange World” and “Strangest of All” books), had a personal encounter with human to horse communication that is as hard for the skeptic to dismiss as the Elberfeld Horses. However difficult it might be for skeptics to accept, the event was quite real and it happened for the entire world to see. Thirteen year old Ronnie Weitcamp disappeared around his home on October, 11, 1955. Within hours, the greatest search in Indiana history was put into motion. Indiana State Police tirelessly pushed forward the investigation with literally hundreds of Naval Depot employees. As the ordeal progressed, Frank Edwards, who had his day job as TRV news director WTTV in Bloomington , was called into the fray. He soon heard of a psychic “wonder” horse in Richmond , Virginia that had actually helped solve the case of another missing child, four year old Danny Matson. This amazing equine was called Lady Wonder. Her owners first noticed something strange about her when she was just a two year old colt. They noticed that she didn't wait to be called, but came out of the field as soon as her owners “thought about calling her”.

When Lady Wonder was two, she astonished everyone by showing how she could count and spell out simple words by moving toy blocks around with her nose and hooves. As they continued to work with her, she progressed in her grasp of both the English language and in her ability to read people's thoughts. When people asked Lady Wonder questions, she would respond by using her nose to turn up the letters of a big tin alphabet which hung suspended from an iron bar in the stall. By flipping the letters, she would eventually spell crude simple responses to any questions asked. Again, this wasn't some kind of circus sideshow. No admission charges were ever charged for people to watch Lady Wonder work her magic. Incredible to accept, but the police in the Danny Matson case actually turned to Lady Wonder's owners after four long months of a fruitless search for the Matson boy. To everyone's astonishment, Lady Wonder actually spelled out that the boy's body could be found in a stone rock quarry. This incident was attested to by the District Attorney of Quincy. Because of Lady Wonder's success in the finding of the Matson boy, broadcaster Edwards thought that maybe, as bizarre as it sounds, Lady Wonder could also help in finding the missing (Ronnie) Weitcamp. Since Edwards was unable to travel to Virginia , he sent a colleague from Washington D.C. to visit Lady Wonder. When his D.C. colleague and company visited Lady Wonder, they received the shock of their lives. What followed might be more a result of reincarnation, because it's just too uncanny to accept, but it really occurred. Lady Wonder, now at the ripe old horse age of 30, promptly responded to the questions put her about Weitcamp. She correctly identified the boy, but had trouble spelling his name. Then they asked her.

“Is dead or alive?”

“D-E-A-D,” spelled out Lady Wonder.

“Was he kidnapped?”

“N-o,” she responded. Lady Wonder then correctly told them that the Weitcamp boy could be found near an elm tree in sand. The information proved to be correct.

Psychic Animal Communicator Bill Northern

Virginian animal psychic Bill Northern has had amazing experiences communicating with a wide variety of animals. He travels the world over helping farmers, race horse owners, and other professional animal handlers in understanding the unspoken needs of their charges. He also helps recover lost pets, and his track record in successful human to animal telepathy is very impressive. Northern discovered he had this unique ability some years before, and is also proficient in the paranormal art of dowsing. Northern has said in various interviews that dogs are usually very politically correct and have a great fear of hurting their master's feelings. Cats, he says, are just the opposite, and are prone to lying and could usually care less about being politically correct. He claims that they will lie to him just to get him to go away. Horses, he adds, are very sensitive creatures who feel that humans are put here to serve them and not the other way around. As far as fish are concerned, he claims all that they usually have on their mind is eating. During the many interviews that he has given both on radio and in the newspaper, he likes to cite the classic example of how these three animals are so different from each. If you don't feed a dog on time, the dog will think "what did I do wrong?" If you don't feed your cat on time, he or she will start making a lot of noise and may decide to go outside and kill something. If you don't feed your horses on time, they will become offended and may have lingering resentment. Even so, Northern believes that most of these animals are quick to forgive, except for certain cats.

The classic example he usually recalls is that of a horse named Freeholder, who one day didn't get his usual apple, apparently one of the great highlights of Freeholder's day on the ranch. Freeholder's owner claimed that the horse was acting very out of sorts as if he was exhibiting an unusual temper tantrum, but couldn't find the reason why. After Northern got to know the animal's personality, he asked him what was wrong. “I didn't get my apple,” Freeholder replied telepathically. When Northern made an inquiry among the stable hands, it was discovered that, yes, Freeholder was not given his usual apple that day, and he was harboring resentment against the humans because of it.

Northern claims that he senses the animals communicate to him with an interior voice. He also is an “Empath” where he can literally feel the animal's pain as it is projected at him. One of the fascinating observations he made during his work in animal telepathy is that animals are very good judges of character in people, noting that there are some people that the animals can read very clearly and take an instant dislike to. Northern believes that he has the help of angels or specific “spirit guides” who help him in this work. It is quite obvious from his busy schedule that he is incredibly successful at it, because he has professional horse breeders and trainers call him for his services all across the world.

Whatever one thinks about the psychic ability of animals, one thing is certain, there is far more than meets the proverbial eye about how they really view us and what they might actually be thinking about us when we normally assume that they don't understand our thoughts.

Our World of Spooky and Weird Stuff: A Look at Anti-Gravity Hills

What is Gravity?

Isaac Newton presented to the world, his law of universal gravitation in the 17th century, without actually being able to explain how and why this force operates. Later came Albert Einstein, who, in 1917 attempted to explain this phenomenon by proposing his theory of general relativity. This theory attributes the force of gravity as “the unseen warping of the fabric of space-time, caused by the presence of mass.

In other words, Einstein sees Space as a sheet, the sun (the cause of the warping or curve) as a basket ball, and the earth as a tennis ball. First, imagine that the sheet is spread out tightly. Now, place the basket ball (the sun) into the middle of the sheet. This would naturally cause a slight dent. Then, put the tennis ball on the edge of the sheet and what happens?

It rolls towards the basket ball!

What does this have to do with my article? Probably nothing more than to demonstrate my satisfaction at being able to explain one of Einstein's theories.

Anti-Gravity Hills

Anti-gravity hills seem to defy all rules of gravity. In some cases, water is reported to have rolled up-hill. Generally, on hills like these all over the world, people are intrigued enough to stop and put their cars in neutral, just to watch them spookily roll up the hill.

All this is fascinating stuff, but at the cost of being a spoil sport, I have to mention here that some scientists have explained this seemingly spooky anti-gravitational "pull" as an optical illusion. They say that in areas such as these, the horizon has been obstructed partially or completely, which results in the human eye seeing an upward slope for a downward one.

Here are some pictures for you to make up your own minds.

The Hummingbird Highway in Belize, is one of the four major highways in that country. People here, even the locals, stop their cars and put them in nuetral so that they can watch them roll up-hill.

These above two pictures are of a Magnetic hill in Los Banos, which is south of Calamba, heading away from Manila in the Philippines. Notice that the water on the surface of the road, seems to be rolling up-hill.

Mooresville, Indianna

A group of people lying on the road in order to see a bottle roll up-hill.

Spook Hill, Lake Wales in Florida is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. As you can see, tourists are encouraged to stop and let their cars roll up-hill.

Mt. Yashmina, Takumatsu City, Japan. The incline you see, is actually where the cars stop and roll up instead of down.

Gravity is not the same all across the earth. Apparently, there are highs and lows where the gravitational field of the earth is either strong or weak. This could mean that many people aren't as heavy as they think they are (which is good news for those travelling to Asia, as it is reported that there are several low spots around India).

Joking aside, this phenomenon, has not yet been explained in its entirety, but whatever you believe, this is just one of the many spooky occurrences on our planet, for which we don't have all the answers.

New Evidence: Stunning Crop Circles Around the Globe

Let me start out by saying that anyone that is familiar with these types of circles can appreciate their artistry and can somehow give their own interpretation based on their own feelings but, lacking of evidence.

Crop Circles are not new phenomenon. They have been around since 815 AD in France when the first appeared. However, at that point in time, people were convinced they were not of this earth.

Even in the 1920's the Geogliphs in Nazca, Peru weren't even discovered until a commercial airline passenger noticed them, even after they had been present for over 2000 years.

The Government, on many occasions has paid individuals to construct circles for the sole purpose of diverting our eyes from the real thing.

An obvious joke; no intelligent being trying to communicate a sign would do this.

The Scientific Side to Circles

There are new geological and electromagnetic studies that are opening the doors for the unexplained and adding more fuel to the fire about the Government Alien cover-up.

The All-Seeing Eye

Michael Glickman, a specialist in the field of crop circles, had determined that there is an increased amount of energy within the circles. In some cases, the circles may be over 641% more magnetic than the next.

In one instance, Pat Grant who is legally blind was led into one of the testing circles and she described being severely frightened; she felt as though she was being watched.

Dr Levenwood, a geologist, has taken soil samples from some of these circles and has come to a startling conclusion. The soil had a coating of hydrocarbon that produces low melting points. The substance actually blows the expulsion cavities out of the crops. However, when humans handcraft these circles, this substance is not found.

There was also high pressured silicon at some of the locations which is able to soften the texture of the crops leading them to lie down flat on the ground without breaking. The interesting thing about this substance is that high pressured silicone is only found on a site of a meteor impact, it is not found on Earthy naturally.

Having a scientific explanation for the melting point of Silicone still does not explain how it got there in the first place. If high pressured silicon comes from outer space, then we can only come to the conclusion that these circles are not made by humans. Notice, I did not say man made.

Most individuals will assume we are the only beings in the entire solar system. If this is true, than who is actually up in space designing these works of art that may actually contain messages dealing with the outcome of this planet? Are they warning us about things to come? Are they truly inherently evil or are they trying to send us signs that are just too intelligent for humans to decipher?

What Do They Mean?

One scientist proposed that the measurement of one of the circles was 16/3 x the area of the middle circle which gave the note for F in the third Octave. It is a form of coded communication seen from the sky and composed of a geometric relationship along with musical notes.

A synthesis of all of the crop circle notes has been played and it may be the alien's form of communication with us.

Others believe they are warnings. Many of the circles resemble the asteroid belt with the orbits of 4 planets, excluding the Earth. What does it mean? And should we be worried?

Dec 21, 2002 Solstice as a starting point in the Aug 2, 2003 East Field circle.

Start of 2003 the Earth has begun a spiral into a trap.

June 21, 2003 is the Summer Solstice. On June 20 and June 23 massive and notable Global Quakes occurred.

On June 22, the Zetas indicated a notable Stage Set point. If the circles reeling into the center trap, where the 23° tilt of the Earth is subject to being forever changed, indicate the weeks following the Summer Solstice, then the end of August should see some changes.

Is Stonehenge a Celestial Calendar?

A new superlative crop circle 750 feet wide has appeared near the ancient stone monument UK linking three Bronze Age burial grounds.

The signs are there; the proof is in the circle; open your eyes and become more aware to a galaxy that is unlike our own.

This could be a type of armor, and the figure has the right number of fingers to be human, but the size and shape of the helmet and the peculiar cross-hatched torso indicates that this is more like a space-suit.

Extra Terrestrials Have Invaded Roswell Where Capitalizing on Conspiracy is a Way of Life

I will admit, believing that we are not alone in this life is an interesting thought. The only evidence I have ever seen has been in movies, pictures posted in newspapers and online and National Enquirer magazines stating the Alien impregnated my sister.

However, the most notorious and well known city for Extra Terrestrial sightings is in Roswell, New Mexico.

In 1947, Roswell became a city of immense speculation after a supposive Alien spaceship crashed and the remains were covered up by the government.

Conspiracy theories predict that the remains of the spaceship along with the bodies were originally shipped to Roswell Base. They eventually ended up at Wright Patt Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio.

I am originally from Ohio and lived just 15 minutes south of the base. I remember hearing stories from friends and from their parents who worked at the base. There were certain people that had seen the remains. It remained a truth to me while I was growing up. As I got older, I started to doubt the stories after so many fabricated stories came to life.
It wasn't until I saw a documentary on one of the former Wright Patt officers that had witnessed the remains coming into Dayton for the first time. This was on a reputable channel on television. but there is only so much truth to every story.

The International UFO Museum and Research Center, located in Roswell, was created in an old movie theater. There are hundreds of displays and artifacts that were found at the crash site and in other locations. They have turned their city into a virtual Alien playground for tourists.

This is a display of an alien that was speculated to have been present in Roswell. An interesting display at the UFO Museum depicting an alien autopsy.

Remnants of articles found at a crash site. A mini flying saucer. Smells a little too much like Men in Black to me.

In wouldn't be appropriate if corporate giants were left out of the mix. Big business is starting to follow the trend and benefit from the mass speculations in Roswell. Big surprise!

If Aliens are like humans in anyway, then they will love fast food. It's just too bad that we are promoting bad health to these extra terrestrials. In a couple of months, they'll be hard to miss when they appear at their first Weight Watchers meeting.

Oh yes, Aliens do love Wal-Mart. They truly appreciate the fact that a target was drawn on the side of the building so they can not only shop for discount plastic toys but, they can blow it up when their done. This, of course, adds to the speculation that aliens are intermittently evil.

Their always watching us! At least until the painted eyes wash off the light posts.

Although the happenings in Roswell still remain a question of truth, the city continues to capitalize on the ghost stories and speculation of that day.

Five UFO Close Encounters Before Roswell

These days practically everyone has either seen or knows someone who has seen a UFO. Yet, when scrutinised, these Unidentified Flying Objects hardly ever remain “unidentified” and scientists, dissenters and the media in general seem to spend hours on explaining every incident away from claiming these sightings were anything from crashing weather balloons to just tricks on the eyes from the aurora borealis lights.

You can't be blamed for wondering, however, if somehow, for some unexplained reason, the world “doth protest too much”…

Just to clear up matters of simple terminology, apparently U.F.O. researcher and astronomer, J. Allen Hynek, suggested in his 1972 book that any U.F.O. seen within a range of 500 feet could be classed as a close encounter - a fact which Steven Spielberg obviously took on board.

With that in mind, here are some of the more famous (and maybe some not quite so well-known) close encounters the human race experienced before Roswell

11th October 1492.

Probably one of the earliest sightings on record involved Christopher Columbus whilst sailing the Atlantic Ocean in the Santa Maria - to quote from the book “The Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus” (1850)

“While patrolling the deck of the Santa Maria at about 10:00PM on October 11, 1492, Columbus thought he saw “a light glimmering at a great distance.” He hurriedly summoned Pedro Gutierrez, “a gentleman of the king's bedchamber,” who also saw the light. After a short time it vanished, only to reappear several times during the night, each time dancing up and down “in sudden and passing gleams.” The light, first seen four hours before land was sighted, was never explained”

O.K. so not a lot happened but could this be evidence of alien activity getting interested in man as he starts to make noticeable forays into the world of exploration?

1868 - Copiapo, Chile

This was the first nineteenth-century instance of close observation of an unknown object at low altitude.

A strange "aerial construction" bearing lights and making engine noises flew low over the town. Local people described it as a giant bird covered with large scales and producing a metallic noise.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking - this was probably the South American equivalent of the Orville Brothers trying to both look and fly like a bird but without the all crucial visual evidence (probably not forthcoming from the 1860's), there's no way we can tell.

November 1886 Maracaibo, Venezuela

The US consul of Venezuela in Maracaibo reported to Scientific American that “a bright object, accompanied with a humming noise, appeared over a hut near Maracaibo.” The people in the hut subsequently developed a sickness, which one could interpret today as radiation disease. The trees surrounding the hut withered after nine days

Yet again, there is no photographic evidence but the sickness of the nine people who were in the hut at the time was very well documented. To all intents and purposes, it looks like these people did endure radiation sickness and the all burning question is: “Was man's technological advancement in 1868 such that the machinery being produced could cause radiation?”

February 25th 1942, Los Angeles

Known as “The Battle of Los Angeles” - just a couple of months after the attack on Pearl Harbour, The whole of Los Angeles was put on full war alert as a giant round object hovered, almost stationary, in the sky over Culver City and Santa Monica. Dozens of anti-aircraft guns bombarded it with nearly 2,000 rounds of 12 pound high explosive shells but to no avail. The craft leisurely made its way down to Long Beach and then disappeared. The attack had no affect on the craft but 6 people died from the aftermath of the exploding bombs and shrapnel.

This encounter actually does have photographic evidence and the U.S. Army acknowledges it was there because they bombarded it with shells for almost half an hour and tragically, six people died in the onslaught. Yet, even so, this incident has been conveniently forgotten in the mists of time.

1947, Roswell, New Mexico

Probably one of the more well documented sightings on record.

Mac Brazel was said to have found a crashed alien saucer complete with alien crew. At the time, more interest was raised as the air force retracted its first statement and then said Mr. Brazel had merely found part of a weather balloon. Subsequently, rumours have been raised that an alien aircraft was indeed recovered and that it contained a living “little grey” alien.

The stories about Roswell are many and varied - some defy all credibility while others seem to have enough going for them to just keep you guessing. One interesting snippet is that the technology found was back engineered and led to the invention of fibre optics that in turn, eventually, enabled the creation of the World Wide Web.

It could be true - who knows? - yet if you take a step back and look at how man has literally rocketed in his technologies since the early 50's… well, perhaps the impossible isn't so improbable after all…

Five Haunted Places From Around the World

I'm a person who's always up for a good ghost story. I can often recall going to old abandoned homes with my brother or some friends of mine that were supposedly haunted. Then a game of who's the bravest would ensue. It all came down to who could make it to the door, who could open the door, and who could stay in the house the longest. None of us were ever brave enough. I don't think it had so much to do with the places ever being really “haunted.' I think it had more to do with the idea, and all the built up angst of what if. Stories of such occurrences have become so common place, that you can never go without ever meeting at least one person who has said they've seen a ghost. Because of these stories, hearing about them have now become a part of our culture. Here are five stories that I've grown up with since I can remember.

Mina dos Estrellas, Mexico (Mine of Two Stars)

Mina dos Estrellas is now an abandoned gold mine in the mountains of Michoacan, Mexico. During its peak, it had employed 5,000 workers. In 1903 when European settlers heard of gold being in the surrounding mountains of Tlalpujahhua, they began excavation plans. Villagers believed that the settlers had disturbed the Nagual, an ancient animal controlled by the devil. The Nagual was a sorcerer who was believed to be part wolf. The villagers warned against mining, but 10 miles of tunnel were dug into the mountain. Strange accidents, deaths, and suicides began to occur. In 1937, torrential floods washed through the mines killing 400 miners. The mine was shut down permanently. Sometime after the flood, gruesome deaths began to occur, children began to disappear, and livestock were found mutilated. The Nagual was once again blamed. Desperate, the local villagers turned to a folk magic practioner who instructed them to seal off the tunnel with large boulders and never open the mine again. Recently villagers have begun to hear strange cries, and animal mutilations have resumed.

Ballyboley Forest, Ireland

Supposedly this was an ancient Druid site. Between the 15th-17th centuries, many people disappeared. People have reported hearing voices and seeing shadowy figures wave between the trees. The forest was open as a public park, but few people rarely venture here, especially off the paths. People feel as if they're being watched, and some have reported feeling a heavy sensation upon their body. Two men in 1997 reported that while in the forest they could hear the cries of a woman. They went to search for her, but only found blood smeared on the trees. They fled in terror, and one man looked back to see 4 robed individuals where none had previously been.

Wilson Hall, Ohio

Athens, Ohio is one of the most haunted places in the United States. Ohio University purportedly has the most hauntings of any university. Wilson Hall is one of the oldest campuses on Athens, and rumors speculate that it was built on an ancient burial ground. Adding to the stories of ghost hauntings is the belief that a girl committed suicide on the fourth floor. Although, no records have indicated that any student committed suicide at Wilson Hall. The girl supposedly practiced the black arts, and before dying, she had written symbols on the walls in her own blood. Despite the walls having been painted numerous times, blood still seeps through the walls. The room was finally sealed and shut. According to stories that have recently circulated, the face of a demon can now be seen on the door.

Changi Beach, Singapore

Singapore is thought to be Asia's most haunted city. Changi Beach is a beautiful coast, with pristine white beaches. While the destination is lovely, it was once the sight of many unfortunate and brutal executions during World War II. Thousands of Chinese civilians were mercilessly tortured and murdered. After the war, 135 war criminals were executed on the same beaches. People often report hearing screams and cries. Some have seen mysterious bloodstains appear and disappear. Headless bodies are seen walking the beaches in search of their heads. Families that have rented huts along the shoreline leave because of sleepless nights and because of being slapped by unseen hands.

Carlton House, Arizona

Okay, this one I threw in because I've actually been here. Plus I used to live off Fort Huachuca, and this house was just one of those places us kids used to go to on Halloween. Carlton House is one of the oldest structures on Fort Huachuca. It was originally a morgue in the 1880's. In the 1900's it became the residence for officers. Supposedly a woman by the name of Charlotte died in the house after having given birth to a stillborn boy. She haunts the house, angry that her child did not receive a proper burial. Officers and their families who have lived in the house have reported strange sightings of a blond woman, objects moving about, doors slamming, lights turning on and off, and weird electrical disturbances.
