Get motivated
Find a reason for why you're studying and write it down.
Think about what your future hopes are and write them down aswell. This helps you to find the motivation to actually begin studying.
Find a place
Find a quiet place in your house or school where there are no distractions or things that will take your mind off your studying. Music is definitely not recommended, as you can't fully concentrate on your work. Make sure you have plenty of light as well as a comfy chair and a large spacious desk to spread yourself out on.
Get organized
Pull together some writing materials, plenty of loose leaf paper, pens, pencils and any text books you might need. Divide different subjects into separate folders. NOTE: Only bring home 2 or so subjects to study each day. If you bring home all of them at once, the sheer amount of it will put you off from even starting.
Create a timetable
Write out the subjects you plan on studying and write how long you plan on studying each one for. (Best option is to do 45-minute blocks) Then, set them out in an order of your choice. Make sure you add 10-15 minute breaks in between to keep you refreshed.
Relax
Once you've studied a subject, set yourself a 15 minute timer and treat yourself to some relaxation time. Some of my recommendations (that I have tried myself) are:
- Play violent games such Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, etc. This form of violence helps you to release tension.
- Work out. Go for a quick run, or if you have fitness equipment, punch the boxing bag or lift some weights, its all your choice.
- Lie back and listen to some music of your choice
- Go outside (or inside) and scream at something. It can be a tree, the fence, a soccer ball or even your sister. The possibilities are ENDLESS.
- Watch 15 mins of a violent movie that you know you enjoy. Comedies such as Team America work just as well.
Cross them off
When you complete a section of your study, it really helps to cross them off your timetable/list. Doing this makes you feel like you have accomplished something during your study.
I hope my guide to studying has helped you study better.
