We all used to read in our science subjects about lots of scientists and various works done by those scientists. Even, we all know certain jokes on those scientists. Now, we praise them, salute them and recognize them. Today they are immortal in our minds. Our society always gives examples of those great scientists and tells us to do something of that type.
But, when any student tries to really thinks of becoming a scientist. They are always demoralized. They are said that its work of mad. Your position in the society degrades. We don't have respect or say in the society, among our peers, among relatives etc. everyone thinks that since he/she couldn't do anything else in life therefore they are doing such work. Such students are generally thought of as less bright students. They are always booed wherever they go. They make the students feel as if they are doing something wrong.
They won't stop unless and until the student achieves some really marvelous feat. Else the student is just treated as an outlaw.
It's really painful to see such scenario.
But, I feel what even society can do. The companies and governments also don't care much about scientists. They may provide them with some of the most advanced instruments. But, monetarily scientists are always on the loosing side. Its always said that if you want to become scientists then you have to forget money and in today's materialistic it is the clear cut indication that you are going against the society laws and hence you are considered as an outlaw.
In our childhood we had a science joke which used to say that more knowledge you possess, lesser money you get. That time we all used to take it joke but now I'm getting its true reality.
So, it really feels bad at the condition of scientists in our society. Society forgets that whatever comforts they are getting is due to hard labor of scientists who work day and night to make our life comfortable. But, in turn society gives nothing to them other mockery.
So, I believe that it's really a high time, that we as a society should understand this problem and must change our attitude. Since, even scientists are human beings and probably much higher in position than we are and hence they deserve really some good respect. Since, if we don't reform ourselves then probably a time may come that no intelligent student will think about the research because then no one would like to study some extra 5-10 years just for listening the booing of the society and to get lowly paid.
However, if society doesn't want any more comforts in future than they can carry on with their irresponsible attitude. But they must remember that if there are no scientists then their won't be any more jobs as it's the scientists who develop new concepts and these new concepts give new uses which provides new jobs. In turn, we would be returning to the Stone Age, where all work has to be done by human as neither they would have any money nor choice.
