Technology advances very quickly. Not even forty years ago computers was as big as a whole room. Now the CPU is smaller and lighter. But technology could be good and bad for the society. Technology is a kind of tool that we use everyday to meet our needs and also gadgets that help us everyday. For example we use a can opener to opened can goods without it we can’t open it. People have discovered that early humans use man made tools to hunt big games and use them to craft or make fire. They also invented the wheel to make traveling much easier. The first tools were made out of animal bones and rock then later they invented metal and they replaced the bone, and rock tools with metal. They use metal to make weapons and make jewelry. Some good things that technology benefits are they protect us from natural disasters. They could detect storms or other natural disasters before us and they warn us before it happens, make it possible for us to communicate with our love ones that live far away, and they help us predict the weather. Some things that could harm the society is there are sexual predators that lure people using the internet like on AIM, some people misuse it and use it to harm other people.
When there is a under water earthquake it is possible it will cause a tsunami. A tsunami is a giant wave that is over a 30 feet tall and it is so powerful it could knock a building down. A tsunami could cause a lot of damage to the state. It could kill millions of people and destroy property that worth billions. A satellite could detect this before we can even fell it. It could warn meteorologist and it could save million of lives. Technology also could save because when someone has a surgery they have robots to do the operation for them. It makes the surgeons less work. Another thing that technology helps us is that it makes it possible for us to communicate with our love ones. Now telephone satellites networks connect to the whole world. I can now call to anyone in anywhere of the world. I could call back to China to talk to my grandma. Technology also helps us predict the weather. If it rains tomorrow I will know when to bring an umbrella so I won’t get wet. I will know how to dress up for the weather.
I also use technology to do my homework. I use it to type essays and do my research with it. I use technology to have fun and entertain myself. Everywhere is technology. Technology advances very fast. No one knows what the future will be. We use technology everyday of our lives. We depend on it. Without technology we can’t travel and we can’t have fun or entertain ourselves, there won’t be any T.V. or any computers. There won’t be trains, Subways or buses so we would have to walk to school everyday. Technology also helps us explore the unknown places like the space. Later in the future we might have technology that can travel faster than the speed of light. Satellites have made road maps for us and explore other galaxies. They figure out what the earth looks like and they could look in the interior of the planets.
Technologies are also bad for us because people misuse them. Some people use technology to do harm. Like in a war people create bombs and kill each other with it. They use technology for bad instead of good. Some hackers use technology to hack computers and software. They always create new virus to destroy the files. In wars people use bombs and guns to kill. They use them to harm us or to the environment. Now cars use fossil fuel to work. The emission that comes out of cars will pollute the air. The carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are bad for us. If we breathe in too much of them they will be poisonous and they sometimes could kill us. They also cause global warming and it will take a long time before the hole in the ozone layer will patch itself. When there is global warming the air warms up and it will kill a lot of plants. When there are no plants animals will die and some of them will be extinct and we will never see them again.
On the internet when you go on AIM and chat with people it is not safe. If a stranger talks to you and they try to meet you don’t because a lot of them are sexual predators that lure people to them. When you post something on the web like in Myspace people could steal our address and everything in it. They could spread it to other people by giving it to their friends then their friends will spread it to other people. It is like giving your keys to a stranger and they could come to your house any time they want. They could steal our ID or your passport.
We use technology for a lot of things. We use technology to discover new things like new planets or a new galaxy. We could invent new things and we could even predict the future. We will continue to invent new technology and science is going to advance. There might be anti-gravity malls up in the middle of nowhere. Airplanes will go more than mach 5.
