I grew up when black men never bothered to encourage their sons or daughters to dream of being any better than just another second class citizen. That we should just be thankful to get a job and be able to eke out a miserable existence in poverty. No matter how much education or experience, I was to gain, should I ever dream of obtaining the so-called American dream.
Even now that some of the people in my race have broken through some of the racial barriers. We still have a long ways to go. I cry out to my black brothers to unite for good causes and leave the gangs and drugs behind, get back to school and get yourself educated. Stop listening to that garbage rap music and start moving into the future. There have been a few inspiring black leaders, but still no one has been listening. I hope now that we have a semi-black presidential candidate going into office that maybe we will start to turn the corner and teach our children that there is still hope.
As I mentioned earlier, several historical event that happened this week. Barack Obama has achieved the goal that African-Americans have never dreamed could ever happen for our race. For me even though I have been very sick and living as a shut-in. I even managed to get up and vote for the first time in my life, because I never felt I had any reason. I even went on to encourage many others who I know had never voted. To register and vote. Amazing. The first time I ever voted in all the candidates that I voted for have won their post.
My only hope now this change can be real. It's time now for all the citizens of this great country. To learn to live together and love one another.Truly something needs to change I know my pockets have been empty for the last eight years. I am certainly hoping for a government that is out to help the people of the nation. Rather than just lining politicians pockets.
