Pyrope from the greek word pyropos “ fiery eyed “ in allusion to the red hue is a deep red garnet of chemical formula Mg3 Al2 (sio4)3 and used as a gemstone. Pyrope is the only garnet that is always a shade of red. Although less common than most other garnets, pyrope is a common gemstone. Pyrope is the only garnet whose common source is igneous rather than metamorphic.
