The water in a lake, river, stream, pond, dam or puddle is evaporated by the sun's heat. The water then becomes water vapour (a gas). As the water rises, the water vapour forms into clouds, which blow the way the wind does.
When the cloud becomes full of Water from the smaller clouds forming it (originally the water vapour) it releases the water, which is commonly called "rain". When the water has just fallen from the clouds, commonly the water comes out as hail (small ice blocks) being that so far up, the air is so cold and as it falls to the surface it gets hotter so the hail melts into water (rain).

When the rain hits earth it will repeat that same cycle many times over.
Did you know: We drink the same water that has been around since the age of the dinosaurs.
3% of the Earths water is fresh water, and 2% are ice-burgs, there is really only 1% of the Earths Water that is drinkable.
