The Rare Cavern Beauty: Spectacular Rock Formations

These are the rock formations inside the caves found in the world.

There are many featured rock formations, but these ones are rarely seen by people because they are hidden in caves. This natural phenomena is very spectacular because of the way it was made and preserved by time. The rock formation inside the caves consist of stalactite and stalagmite.  Stalactite came from the word "staktites" meaning "that which drips". It is type of speleothem (secondary mineral) which hangs from a wall, and is often called a dripstone. The other one is called Stalagmite and is a type of speleothem that rises from the floor of a limestone cave due to the dripping of mineralized solutions and the deposition of calcium carbonate.

I have personally went to one of the caves in Bohol (Hinagdanan Cave) to see personally the rock formations, and I was not disappointed. They were beautiful. There are many tourists who came just to see them. Below is a picture of the rock formation inside the Hinagdanan cave.

There are many people who do not actually appreciate the beauty of the rock formation, that is why they vandalize on them. They write their names on them just to show that they've been to that cave. Actually, caves are formed by various geologic processes. These may involve a combination of chemical processes, erosion from water, tectonic forces, microorganisms, pressure, atmospheric influences, and even digging. It took thousands or even million of years before caves were formed, yet some people would just destroy it in minutes or even seconds.

Among any other caves, the Lechuguilla Cave in New Mexico is highly regarded as the most decorated cave in the world. Just looking at the picture you will really be amazed on how were the rocks formed. These were formed by the chemical gas compound known as the 'hydrogen sulfide'. It comes from the oil reservoir in the underground which give off sulfurous fumes. As I was researching for this topic I found a perfect definition on how rocks are formed, and I just want to quote it:

"Rocks can be formed by different processes such as crystallization, gradual accumulation or even pressure of heat under the earth's crust. Many reasons and methods of formation can be found, each one for a different type of rock. Weathering and erosion can also be a method of rock formation, whereby the rocks are sculpted into forms which you can see here on this picture! Some people even see things or objects in those sculptures. You will also may be agree with these explanations. Nevertheless, rock is our main and if i can say only source. The earth is made of rock. When rocks are gradually accumulated one on another they increase in height as you can see here. Some of them are eroded by the winds, the waves (if they are cliffs for example); others can just be eroded by us, human beings when walking over and over again on them. They say a fascinating subject to most. Rock formations can be seen only after many years. It takes its time but the result stays just as beautiful as anything else."

Wow...these Caverns are just simply BEAUTIFUl!!! They remind me of a time in my Childhood (some 20'odd years back, LOL!) when I lived in Knoxville, Tenn. with my Parents and siblings (My Father was always moving us all over the U.S. Due to the fact that his Career was being a Salesman :)!). In this small town, I was attending a Private/Church School (as a matter of fact, the building that made up this Church in itself was a piece of art! It was made up of two buildings, side by side, both being identical in every shape and form even down to the two Steeples!). Anyway, whle I was going to school here, there was one field trip which will always stay in my memory for life! Our class (as well as a few other classrooms) visited some Caverns which were located inside a "HILL"...basically, if you were to see the outside of this meager hill, you would NEVER in your minds eye suspect that there were the most BEAUTIFUUL Caverns as WELL as a BOTTOMLESS Lake, located within! Yes, I said BOTTOMLESS Lake!!! I remember how the Tour Guide was telling us this story about some of the first settlers in that area, one of which discovered the Caverns by crawling through a VERY small cave...sometimes having to slide through parts of it on his belly!!! The Guide actually had some of us freakin out with Chills running down our spines (LOL) with a part of the TRUE story being about a Lion or Cougar or one of those BEAUTIFUL Creatures being in this Cavern, prowling toward this Gentleman whom discoverd it!!!
Anyway...your writing helped me to remonence back on my past...and I thank You for that!!! You do have a TRUE Talent for words :)!!!
Keep on, Keeping ON!!!
-Rebecca :)
