The Most Amazing Animal You Will Ever Read About

This animal is gentle, yet extraordinary. Every aspect of it will amaze you.

One of the most curious animals in the most interesting places in the world is the jellyfish that resides in jellyfish lake, Palau. These jellyfish are extremely unique because they have almost no sting, the only way you could detect it were if you kissed it, and the slight tickle on your lips would be the sting. This tiny sting is used to capture plankton that are attracted to the algae the jellyfish grow on their bodies.

These jellyfish are also special because even though they have no brains, or eyes, their swimming patterns follow the sun, this is to let the algae photosynthesize, and to keep away from the shore where preditorial anemones would be happy to eat them, the shadow cast by the tropical trees helps guide the jellyfish away from shore.

The lake itself consists of 3 layers. The top layer, of water, where the jellyfish reside, the middle layer, which is filled with a red bacteria that clouds the water, and the final layer, a dark, black layer filled with poisonous hydrogen sulfides where, even in a wetsuit, 5 minutes could prove fatal.

At night, the jellyfish descend to the bottom layer, about 15-20 meters below the surface to let the hydrogen sulfides nourish the algae on their bodies
