Impact of E85 on Greenhouse Effect

How does E85 affect greenhouse gas emissions?

E85 is an alcohol fuel which is a mixture of ethanol, gasoline and any other hydrocarbon. Certain fuel engines are run on fuels containing 85% of ethanol and other fuel contents. Hence the name E85.

E85 comparatively reduces greenhouse effect. Corn based E85 is has a significant impact on fossil fuel usage and greenhouse emissions. The process of processing these E85 fuels and purifying is increasing with time. The main component - ethanol is easily prepared from crops like corn wheat, rice, maze, barley. Hence their preparation costs are quite economical.

Greenhouse gas emission includes carbon dioxide, methane and nitrogen. E85 fuels have lower carbon dioxide content and produces relatively low amount of carbon emissions. This is a major impact in controlling the greenhouse effect.

Also, as compared to vehicle efficiency and carbon emissions, vehicle emission stands up in a very remarkable position.

These E85 fuels are blended with corn based ethanol to produce high efficiency, high energy emitting but relatively low carbon emission fuels.Vehicle fuel economy is the most important factor in determining the efficiency of the fuel. These E85 fuels provide higher fuel economy without much loss in vehicle function and performance.

Various researches are conducted in US and Canada to check the carbon emissions in E85 fuel and have resulted that there is 70% reduction in carbon emission with these E85 alternative fuel sources.Using ethanol alone reduces around 18-25% of carbon emissions as per the reports.
